For over three decades, Everest Carpet Nepal has transformed the ancient craft of hand-knotted rug making into a living art form. Each piece begins in our Himalayan atelier, where master weavers blend centuries-old Tibetan techniques with contemporary design sensibilities.

We source only the finest materials: hand-spun Himalayan wool selected for its lustre and tensile strength, lustrous banana silk that catches the light like no synthetic fibre can, and rare Himalayan nettle — each chosen for its unique character and exceptional durability.

Every rug leaves our workshop bearing the mark of its maker. No two are identical. That is not a limitation. It is the point.

Ten distinct weaving techniques meet in one rug — cut pile against loop, high-twist against silk sheen, flat-weave banding against raised tufted diamond work. Each panel appears to overlap the next like sheets of paper on a table, an illusion built entirely through changes in pile height and knot structure.

The entire rug was woven on one loom. No part of it has been stitched to another. For a weaver this is the hardest thing we ask: ten tensions, ten pile depths, one continuous warp.

A study in depth. Bands of deep shag pile rise beside dense cut pile and drop away to a near-flat weave, so the surface reads as ridges of rock under snow. The colour barely shifts — it is the height of the wool alone that draws the pattern.

The piece finishes in a heavy hand-spun fringe, twisted at the loom rather than added later. Photographed in our mountain workshop yard the morning it came off the frame.

Bold horizontal banding in hand-spun Himalayan wool. The gradient colourways are achieved through natural dye bathing — madder for the deep rusts, weld for the golds, iron-bath for the near-blacks. Because each batch is hand-dyed separately, no two rugs are identical.

A wash of colour that moves from deep teal through slate to a warm mist — the palette of high-altitude glaciers in the hour before sunset. The gradient is achieved through successive dye baths at incrementally adjusted temperatures: a process that requires the dyer's complete attention across three days.

Scattered wildflowers on a warm terracotta field. Inspired by the garden manuscripts of 17th century Mughal craftsmen, reinterpreted through contemporary Himalayan eyes. The floral motifs are hand-drawn by our in-house designers before being transferred to the loom.

The Craft

The knot density in our finest rugs exceeds 300 knots per square inch. A single 9×12 foot rug can take four weavers six months to complete — more than 5,000 hours of continuous, meditative labour.

Our weavers do not use chemical washing to accelerate the antique effect. Our rugs earn their patina through use — through the life lived in the rooms they inhabit.

We have worked with the same weaving families for two and three generations. The knowledge transfers in person, by demonstration, by proximity — not through manuals or machinery.

Every thread carries the memory of the mountain it came from.

Fibre Selection

Hand-sorted Himalayan wool and silk selected for lustre, length and tensile strength. Each batch is graded by hand.

Natural Dyeing

Plant-based dyes from madder, indigo, weld and walnut. Multiple mordant baths to achieve depth and permanence.

Hand Knotting

Tibetan-style hand knotting on vertical looms. Each knot tied individually — up to 300 per square inch in our finest pieces.

Finishing

Pile carving, washing in mineral water, sun drying on the riverbank. No chemical processing.
